Birthdays

My brother's birthday is November 10. He just loves the Pizza Ranch. They don't have one in his town. I plan to take him to the one in our town for his birthday. I have never seen anyone eat so many different pieces of pizza, including the dessert pizza too. They also have the best Broasted Chicken around with mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, salad bar. You just can't beat it. He will be 79.

Father's Day

Tomorrow is Father's Day. I don't have a father to visit or give a gift to today. However, I have two wonderful sons who are fathers and also 2 wonderful son-in-laws who are great fathers. In addition to that I have two grandsons and a grandson-in-law that are all great fathers. Tomorrow my niece is having a picnic to honor my brother, her father. I am invited to join in and plan to do that. It is supposed to be a wonderful, sunny day. We had a nice rain last night and hope it is dried up by then. Happy Father's Day to any father that may read this.

Retirement

My son-in-law retired yesterday from a long career as first a Iowa State Highway Patrolman and then a DCI agent. We are all very proud of him. Without dedicated men such as him working in a police position, this country would run wild. I don't think ordinary people ever to stop to think what it would be like without any police. Criminals would run wild and no one would be safe. The world seems to be getting worse all the time without so many murders, home invasions and more. Now people think before they leave for a normal day of shopping, not knowing if they will be shot in a store, mall or right on the street. I am proud to have a member of my family spend many years protecting the public and assisting them also when needed.

Crazy Spring Weather

This has not been a nice Spring. We have had hot and cold weather. Right now it is cold. We have had so much wind and right now we have gusts to 25 mph. There has been so much rain too. My tulips are up and blooming and being beaten down by the winds and rain. The Goldfinch have returned and are hanging onto the feeders for dear life. Mama Robin has a nest in a curve of a rain gutter just across from me on the house next door and they will be fun to see when the chicks hatch. So far their nest is safe and hasn't blown away. I wonder how many birds have lost their nests this year due to the crazy Spring weather. At least we are not getting any of the snow they are getting out west. Sure glad of that.

Springtime

It is Springtime at last and we have had some good rain and more coming in about 5 days. This is the season of Easter. Families all over are planning big dinners. They want to get together with their families and have a good time. The weather is going to cooperate so the kids will be able to go outside. It has been nice and warm, finally. It has been a rough, cold winter but the flowers are beginning to come up now. The trees are budding and the Robins are back. It is great!

Here it is, tax time again. Everyone is complaining about their high taxes. I used to say we should be thankful if we have to pay some tax because it means we made some money. Unless you are one of the fortunate ones who put away lots for retirement, or inherited money or something like that. It's tough living on a fixed income but you can do it if you just try. You need to have good health insurance and prescription insurance and you will never make it. I am blessed to have both.

Valentine's Day

Saturday, February 14, will be Valentine's Day. Will you be buying flower, jewelry, candy or something else for your Valentine? I think it is a commercial Holiday thought up by people in order to sell more stuff for that day than they would ordinarily. I don't have a Valentine any more and I miss him. We never did really celebrate Valentine's Day very often. I was talking to someone this morning that said the same thing. They don't do anything special for that day. Others go out for a steak supper or something like that. It is fun for those who do celebrate Valentine's Day.

Groundhog Day

Here it is again. Groundhog Day today. And guess what? He saw his shadow (shock) and we will have 6 more weeks of winter. I don't remember in my lifetime when we didn't have 6 more weeks of winter. Tomorrow promises more snow. It is going to be a long Spring the way it is going. February can be a very cold brutal month. We look forward to June when it will probably really warm up. May can be cold and rainy too sometimes. Easter outfits are covered with winter coats, mittens and scarves. Not alot of fun.

Birthdays and Christmas too

Celebrated the first birthday for a little great granddaughter, then followed by a delicious Christmas supper. Next we went to a church program with 3 of my great grandchildren in it. It was really good. Cookies and punch were served after. Next we had Christmas at one of my daughters and had a good time with all her kids and their kids. Was quite a crowd, lots of wonderful food and fun. We also went to their church and saw the kids program for Christmas. That was great to be able to go as the weather hadn't really been cooperating very well all month. Ending the Month, we had another Christmas dinner with most of my children, and more grandchildren and great grandchildren. Had a fun gift exchange game.
