Eureka a Science Fiction Show for Generation Next

Guest post by Toney Elliott

Eureka is my favorite science fiction show on tvbydirect.com. Although Eureka will probably never be remembered as a cult classic of the genre as a television show. It should be remembered as one of the most offbeat attempts to blend the general American mythology of high brow science fiction, with the normal everyday world. It is the line in the sand where Mayberry and the local town Sheriff meet the X-files.

There is a genuine sense of humor and something many newer science fiction shows lack today - the genre is based in teaching the mythology of the technological age in a semi-prohetic point of view. True science fiction has always been just a few decades or a millennium ahead, but not so far off that we cannot see the changes coming. Science fiction is the prophecy text of the common man. Eureka truely speaks to this pure formula in the science fiction genre.

Coming from the quirky think tank community of scientist and other resident locals, Eureka is seen through the daily law enforcement duties and experiences of the newly appointed Sheriff Jack Carter and teenage daughter Zoe. Eureka is Northern Exposure for the Wii generation. It is a bit hard to classify and worth a second glance before dismissing it as comedic farce. Eureka is much more science than fiction at heart.

I found the pilot of Eureka to be totally refreshing. A delightful blend of humour and sci-fi, this is the kind of original programming Sci-Fi channel is known for.
