Unknown Peru Amazon Tribe Seen

According to a team of ecologists, a previously unknown indigenous group living in isolation has been found deep in Peru's Amazon jungle. As they flew overhead looking for illegal loggers, the ecologists spotted the 21 Indians near the Brazilian border. Contact with outsiders can be fatal for isolated tribes people who have no immunity to many diseases. Some groups have fled deep into the jungle to avoid contact with loggers and oil and gas prospectors.

Peru Runs Out of Tents after Earthquake

Peruvian officials say they have run out of tents and urgently need at least 40,000 more to house victims of the devastating earthquake two weeks ago. Aid agencies said many survivors in the Ica region, were living on the streets in unhygenic conditions, and were desperately in need of basic supplies.More than 500 people were killed and 1.300 injured in the earthquake.

Peru Rattled By Fresh Earthquake

A strong earthquake hit Peru on Friday, striking panic into local people and rescuers still searching for survivors of Wednesday's devastating quake. It is not known whether the aftershock, which the US Geological Survey website listed as a 5.9 magnitude, caused further damage or loss of life. At least 500 people were killed when Wednesday's quake wrecked parts of Peru's central coast. The hunt for survivors goes on and dead bodies are still being retrieved.
