President Bush has said every country must set its own targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.His comments at a meeting of the top 16 polluting nations, suggest the US may not agree to any internationally binding cuts. Combating climate change should not hinder economic growth either, he said. Critics say the US position could dilute attempts to reach a global agreement through the UN, ahead of the expiry of the Kyoto Protocol in 2012.

A new cabinet has been named in Russia by President Vladimir Putin. There seem to be few clues as to who might succeed him though, when he leaves office next year. Sergei Ivanov and Dmitry Medvedev have both kept their jobs as deputy prime ministers and are the most frequently spoken of as the next president. The reshuffle of the cabinet was no surprise compared to that which accompanied the appointment of Victor Zubkov as Prime Minister two weeks ago.

Die Hard Director Facing Prison

John McTiernan has been sentenced to four months in prison after a judge refused his request to withdraw a guilty plea. He is the Die Hard director. A Los Angeles court gave the film-maker until January 15 to turn himself in and imposed a fine of $100,000. He pleased guilty last year to making false statements to FBI agents investigating disgraced celebrity detective Anthony Pellicano. He tried to withdraw his plea, claiming insufficient legal representation. The 56 year old's laywer has indicated that an appeal will be started.

US Homes Prices Drop Farther

It is the steepest drop in 16years according to a recent survey. The price of existing homes in the 10 largest cities feel by0.6% in July. The data comes from S&P/Case-Shiller home price index and puts the annual price fall in those cities at 4.5%. A broader survey of 20 cities found that prices fell in 15 of them, dropping an average of 0.4% from June to July, and down 3.9% on July 2006. Large numbers of unsold existing and new homes have hit prices. The cities where prices are still rising are Atlanta, Charlotte, North Carolina, Dallas, Portland and Seattle.

U.S. Court Reviews Lethal Injection

The U.S. Supreme Court is going to review the legality of lethal injections, the means of execution in most U.S. states. Lethal injection is used in all the 38 states that have capital punishment except Nebraska, which requires electrocution.The high court has agreed to hear challenges from two death row inmates, Ralph Baze and Thomas Clyde Bowling, Jr. They sued the state of Kentucky in 2004, saying lethal injections are cruel and a violation of civil rights. Israel Set to Free Palestinian Prisoners

Right now there are more than 10,000 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli jails. The last major release of prisoners was in July, after the Hamas movement seized control of the Gaza Strip. Now the Israeli cabinet has agreed to free about 90 Palestinian prisoners in a move aimed at boosting support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. They say the prisoners' names will be confirmed later. It's expected that they will not include anyone who has killed or wounded Israelis. You certainly can't blame them for that.

Arctic Ice Withdrawal Shatters Record

US Scientists have confirmed that Arctic sea ice shrank to the smallest area on record this year. The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) said the minimum extent of 1.59 million square miles was reached on September 16. This figure shatters all previous satellite surveys, including the previous record low measured in 2005. The Northwest Passage was open earlier this month. This year, ships have been able to complete navigation of the fabled Arctic shipping route from the Atlantic to the Pacific which is normally ice-bound at some location throughout the year.

Italians Seized in Afghanistan

It appears that Italian authorities say they believe that two missing soldiers serving in western Afghanistan have been abducted. They believe they have been kidnapped together with two Afghans. The defense ministry said that a search was underway. They lost contact with the men after they crossed a police checkpoint in Herat province. The two Italian soldiers were believed to be in the company of their Afghan driver and translator.It is hoped they will find them soon.

Many Missing In Bangladesh Storm

About 100 Bangladeshi fisherman are feared drowned after their boats sank during a storm in the Bay of Bengal. Seamen who managed to return to shore reported seeing at least 10 fishing trawlers flounder in the heavy seas. Authorities say they cannot mount a search operation until the high winds and waves in the area subside. ferry services have been halted and hundreds of people in coastal areas evacuated due to the weather.

Ahmadinejad Warns Against Attack

Iran's President has issued a tough warning to any country considering an attack on Iran. He said Iran's forces were not just for defense, but that anybody who attacked would experience nothing but regret. He urged those he called the occupiers in the region - an apparent reference to the United States and its allies in Iraq - to admit defeat and withdraw their troops. He was speaking at a huge annual military parade marking the anniversary of the Iran-Iraq war. George Clooney Hurt iin Motorcycle Crash

Hollywood star, George Clooney, has been injured in a motorcycle crash in New Jersey, across the Hudson river from New York City. His passenger and George were hurt when he collided with a car on a narrow road on Friday. He suffered a broken rib and scrapes and his passenger, Sarah Larson, broke her foot. Both were treated in the hospital and later released. They said he is doing fine but has a broken rib and it is very painful and it will take a long time to heal. Friday Night Fish Fry

We always go to the fish fry on Friday nights, put on by the Knights of Columbus. It is a regular buffet and so much good food. Alzheimers, the Dreaded Disease

The people who bought our home when we downsized, were not quite of retirement age yet. They had considered a condo first but our big house was just what they wanted with a big lawn and 3 garages. He worked very hard to landscape it and changed the double garage to a triple garage to house their trailer and pickup so they would have it to go to Texas in the winter. Then she began to have funny symptoms and was diagnosed with alzheimers at about 63. She has changed rapidly and now they are selling the house and moving into a retirement apartment. He is not ready for that but it is necessary to keep taking care of her. It is so sad.

Being born again means you have confessed your sins and are genuinely sorry for them and ask Jesus to come into your heart and life and forgive you of those sins. I just love the three Law and Order programs. I make sure to tape them so I don't miss any of them. I have watched these programs for years now and really enjoy them. It's Friday

Here it is Friday again. This week has just flown by. It has been both a cold and hot week, weatherwise. I think I need to check on my impatient flowering pots again to make sure they have enough water. They let you know though if they don't. They just droop down until you think they are dead. It is starting to get sunny and is about 80 degrees out in the sun so far this morning.

Busy Day Tomorrow

Got to finish up the laundry and then head over and pick up the car as soon as it is ready. Have fish fry tomorrow night and want to go to that. Want to go to Fleet Farm and pick up another hummingbird feeder too. we had two ruby throated hummingbirds come to our feeder. I just read in the Clear Lake paper that they are migrating to the south. That is the first time we have ever seen one and they are really red in the front of their neck. Very pretty little birds.

Fog

We have very heavy fog this morning. Visibility is not good. We are going to the next town this morning and they have a big lake there and it will be even more foggy. They are going to start harvesting where my brother is driving semi and it isn't good to have all this fog. But it is supposed to clear off and be sunny today. We need to drive over to a car garage this morning in this fog.

Mexican Supper

Tonight was our weekly trip to the Mexican supper at a restaurant south of us a few miles. We love almost everything they have from the burritos to the enchiladas. My husband likes the super burrito with no ripe olives and it is stuffed with meat and beans and cheese sauce over the top and lots of salsa. Gaza Outdoor Prayer Ban Enforced

Hamas security forces have broken up crowds of Fatah supporters, who were gathering in defiance of a ban on open air Friday prayers across Gaza. According to medical sources, they say at least 11 people were taken to the hospital for treatment following the clashes. U.S. Mortgage Lender Slashes Jobs

The biggest mortgage lender in the United States, Countrywide Financial, says it is making big job cuts. Their Chief Executive said the company, based in California, was being forced to cut up to 12,000 jobs, one-fifth of its staff. He also said the firm had been badly hit by the US house price slump and the increasing number of buyers who are defaulting on mortgage repayments. The firm expects new mortgages to fall by 25% in 2008, compared with 2007.

We have had a hot 3 months of summer this year and it has been hard on us, the dog and our appliances, especially the refrigerator. It has had to do double duty this summer, opening and shutting the door for cold drinks all the time and making ice cubes as fast as we use them. Iran Faced $2.65 billion US Bomb Award

A US judge has ordered Iran to pay $2.65 billion to the families of 241 marines killed in a l983 bombing on their Beirut barracks. The ruling allows nearly 1,000 family members and survivors to try to claim Iranian assets from around the world. But getting the money will be difficult. But the families are backed b a law in Congress that would make it easier for victims to claim such compensation. Iran denies involvement in the bombing of course.

The Kids Next Door

You have to admire the family next door. The have 4 kids and 3 are old enough to play outside. The have a big swing set for them and there is a dead end drive way so they got out there a lot of days and draw their house with sidewalk chalk and play in it. In the winter, they are always out there sledding or sliding down the huge snow piles that the plow makes after cleaning the driveways. They are riding their bikes, getting fresh air and sunshine and not sitting in front of the TV or playing Playstation. It is refreshing to see parents letting their children play outside, getting exercise that way too.

They say there are some thunder storms to the north of us. It is no wonder as it was 90 on our deck yesterday. We turned the air conditioner on again after having it off for a week. We have run it all summer, it has been so hot. It sounds like we will have rain this afternoon and maybe tonight. It will interrupt the harvest but I am sure we need the rain anyway. It dries off fast this time of the year. The wind is always blowing.

Golf

I think my son-in-law eats, sleeps and breathes golf. He's out very early in the morning before breakfast and after work and every chance he gets. He has a new son-in-law that loves golf too so they often golf together. We have a beautiful golf course in our little town and it is overrun with golfers this time of the year. I have this little TV that plays VCR tapes in here by my computer. I like to tape Hallmark movies and watch them on it inbetween when there aren't any posts to do. Miniature Draft Horses

I have a 4th cousin that raises miniature draft horses. She shows them and had pictures of them pulling a wagon. They are really neat. Although small, she says they are still good sized. They were beautiful pictures and great looking teams. It must be fun to raise them. I love draft horses and love the yearly draft horse show they have here in this area. They come from many states and the black and dapple gray percherons are my favorites. We have several local families that raise and show draft horses.

Cousins

I got to see a lot of my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th cousins today. The problem with not seeing them in maybe 40 years, is that they all got old and I didn't recognize half of them. They remembered me but I wouldn't have known them if I passed them on the street. I saw people from town that I probably knew at one time but didn't remember their names. It was kind of strange to be among relatives and feel the room was full of strangers.

Jane Wyman Dies

One of all time favorite movie stars, Jane Wyman, died the other day at age 93. She was Ronald Reagan's first wife. Their daughter, Maurene, looked just like her mother. Sadly, she died of cancer way too young. I saw a lot of Jane's movies when I was young and then she was on TV too. Scores Killed in Indian Accident

As they were traveling in a lorry, it plunged down a gorge in India. At least 85 Hindu pilgrims have died and some 60 people were injured. The driver lost control of the lorry at a sharp bend in the western state of Rajasthan according to the Police. The vehicle was carrying at least 150 people when it plowed through a protective concrete barrier and plunged 80 ft. Rescuers using cranes and searchlights recovered the deal overnight. This was certainly a terrible accident.

Rabies Could Be Gone in a Decade

If sufficient vaccination programs are carried out on domestic dogs, rabies could be wiped out across the world within a decade. That would be great. Rabies kills about 55,000 people a year. If enough dogs were vaccinated, the disease cycle could be broken worldwide, leaving no threat to humans. They hope village-based campaigns could reach 70% of the dog population. The first World Rabies Day took place on Friday.

Police suspect Madeleine McCann's Parents

The Portuguese policy have named both parents of missing Madeleine McCann as formal suspects in her disappearance. This was reported by their lawyers. I love Branson. The shows are superb and the food is excellent. There are so many motels there now that it is hard to choose one. I am glad it is Friday. We got the nicest 3/4" of rain last night and my husband mowed the lawn yesterday so that was very good timing. We are going to the fish fry in Mason tonight and on the way we have to stop and pick up some clothes that I had altered. This lady is very good. She has been altering clothing for a cleaners, for a very long time and she is fast too. I took them to her last Friday and she called Wednesday and said they were ready. We'll go have a great meal with both fish and chicken tonight and no cooking at this house :0)

Darfur Protesters Greet UN Chief

UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon has been met by protests during a visit to a refugee camp in Sudan's strife torn western Darfur region. Archaeologists in Israel Discover Beekeepers

Digging in northern Israel they have discovered evidence of a 3,000 year old beekeeping industry, including remnants of ancient honeycombs, beeswax and what they believe are the oldest intact beehives ever found. The findings in the ruins of the city of Rehov this summer include 30 intact hives dating to around 900 B.C. The archaeologist Amihai Mazar of Jerusalem's Hebrew University told The Associated Press about this. He said it offers unique evidence that an advanced honey industry existed in the Holy Land at the time of the Bible.

Pavarotti, Opera Legend, Dies

The condition of Luciano Pavarotti's health worsened and he died of a very serious condition, according to Italian media. Pavarotti, who was 71, has been suffering from pancreatic cancer and was released from the hospital on August 25, after a series of tests were carried out. He was being treated at home in the northern city of Modena surrounded by family and friends. He had surgery for the cancer in July 2006 in New York and has not made an public appearances since then. The whole world mourns his passing.

Wedding Reception

We went to a lovely wedding reception Saturday night and we were blessed to ride along with our daughter and son-in-law. It was held in Music Man Square and just off to one side was the home of Meridith Wilson, the "Music Man" himself. Of course, he is dead now, but his music will live on forever. The Square is made of up of quaint old time stores, some of them to look at and some of them for shopping. An old-time car graces the entry way and many other things to look at. It was very enjoyable. The bride was gorgeous and the groom is handsome and they make a lovely couple.

English Mystery Movies

We just love to watch the English movies on the BBC on Tuesday and Friday nights. They have a lot of Miss Marple movies by the famed author, Agatha Christie. It think when I was a kid, I read every single one of her books. I used to haul home 6 at a time and read and return them, and get 6 more. That was as many as the would allow at a time. We love the detective movies too and I love their accents. Like they say in America, "it's too bad the English don't speak our language." haha But half the time I can't understand a word they are saying and often some have Irish accents and that is even harder to catch on to.

What's For Breakfast?

Are you a steak and eggs person, or a pancake person or like me, a cereal person when it comes to eating breakfast. I like those that are crunchy flakes with strawberries in them or blueberries and almonds and dates too. I also like the crunchy flakes and lots of raisens. They taste so good. As soon as I pour my bowl, Holly comes running, hoping I will give her a few flakes and I do. She likes it as well as I do.

Our Sweet Little Dog

Holly is the best little dog we have ever had. She wouldn't bite a flea if she had one. You can take her food right out from under her nose and she won't do anything, no growl or anything. She is so much different than the little dog we had before that would have taken your arm off if he could. She is always glad to see us come home from eating out. I think she smells the food on us and hope we will bring her some. And she is ready to go potty in the garage. She is paper trained which makes it really great in the wintertime when the snow is flying. She is going to be 9 years old this month. I hate to see her getting older. She's really a member of the family.

Pizza and Chicken

What could be better than lots of salad, pudding, pizza and broasted chicken. Could it be mashed potatoes with it and the best gravy around, green beans, chicken fingers and broasted potatoes too. And for dessert, cactus bread, a dessert pizza and it is really good with vanilla pudding on top. Wash it all down with our favorite coke product or lemonade and you have got some might good eating and leave the dishes to them. That's what we did tonight.

Drugs and Fruits

I had to run out to the pharmacy this morning to pick up several prescriptions. I had a written one from the eye doctor to get filled so they said they would deliver all my prescriptions to the house. Isn't that great? No charge either and I save gas running out there again. It is a new building on the west end of town and is a ways out and has a nice drive through window. I like that. Sometimes I take Holly along and she gets a dog biscuit. She loves that. Stopped at the grocery store and got apples, bananas, plums and nectarines. They are soooo good this time of year. And they are so good for you. Better than rolls and donuts and they are sweet and take away your cravings for sweets.

Do you remember when you were a little kid and you could go to a candy store with a nickel or a dime and bring home a whole bag of candy? Well, maybe you are younger than I am but when I was small we could buy lots of penny candy and sometimes even two for a penny. If we had a dime we could buy almost anything. The candy bars were much bigger too so you could get a couple of really big candy bars for that dime. Today's candy is so expensive. Iran Reaches Key Nuclear Goal

Iran has met a key target for its nuclear program and now has 3,000 centrifuges enriching uranium, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said. He also said Iran would continue its drive in spite of UN sanctions. Enriched uranium can be used for power stations but also for nuclear bombs. The West has accused Iran of trying to develop weapons, a charge Iran denies.

North Korea to End Nuclear Work

North Korea has agreed to declare and disable all its nuclear facilities by the end of this year, the US negotiator at talks with Pyongyang in Geneva said. Christopher Hill said details of the deal would be discussed at six party talks in China, later in September. North Korea tested a nuclear device last year, but has since agreed to a deal to shut down its program in return for economic and other aid. It has already shut down its main nuclear reactor at Yongbyon.

Guinea-Bissau to Shoot Drug Planes

Suspected drug planes that enter Guinea-Bissau's airspace will be shot down in a bid to reduce rampant cocaine trafficking according to their government. The Prime Minister said he had personally issued the uncompromising order. This follows the army's seizure of a truckload of jet fuel in a forest outside the city of Buba. International drug experts fear the poor, unstable, country surrounded by islands could become a narco-state.

Peru Runs Out of Tents after Earthquake

Peruvian officials say they have run out of tents and urgently need at least 40,000 more to house victims of the devastating earthquake two weeks ago. Aid agencies said many survivors in the Ica region, were living on the streets in unhygenic conditions, and were desperately in need of basic supplies.More than 500 people were killed and 1.300 injured in the earthquake.

Sacked Polish Minister Arrested

Poland's former interior minister, who had accused the government of illegal phone-tapping, has been arrested. Lawyers for Janusz Kaczmarek say he is alleged to have obstructed justice. Mr. Kaczmarek was fired earlier this month on suspicion of leaking confidential information to hinder a corruption inquiry.The former national police chief and the head of a state-run insurance firm were also arrested. Opposition politicians condemned the arrests.

Fighters Seize Pakistan Troops

Scores of Pakistani soldiers are missing near the Afghanistan border amid claims from pro-Taleban militants that the have captured 300 men. More than 100 army personnel are unaccounted for, according to officials in the South Waziristan region. A Muslim militant group said it had taken the troops because the government was not honoring a recent peace deal.
