Veteran Teacher Arrested

A veteran teacher was arrested on drug charges in central Pennsylvania. What is happening with teachers? So many have abused their students and had sex with their students. I guess it is no surprise that one would be arrested for drugs.

The police say they have arrested a veteran elementary school teacher and seized 72 pounds of marijuana from her home. Imagine 72 pounds! Williamsport police say they arrested Beth Camp, age 52, on Friday along with her husband and son and charged them with possession with intent to deliver and other counts. Police estimated the marijuana was worth $350,000. Wow!

Key Activists Arrested in Burma

Burma's military rulers have arrested three of the last remaining leaders of the recent pro-democracy protests which were violently suppressed. Among those detained was Htay Kywe, who led some of the first marches and was a prominent activist in a l988 uprising. The arrests came as thousands attended a pro-government rally in Rangoon, many of them apparently under duress. UN envoy Ibrahim Gambri, who met junta leaders earlier this month, is preparing for another visit to Burma. Following the latest arrests, few, if any, leaders of the l988 generation of former student activists are thought to remain at large.

Sacked Polish Minister Arrested

Poland's former interior minister, who had accused the government of illegal phone-tapping, has been arrested. Lawyers for Janusz Kaczmarek say he is alleged to have obstructed justice. Mr. Kaczmarek was fired earlier this month on suspicion of leaking confidential information to hinder a corruption inquiry.The former national police chief and the head of a state-run insurance firm were also arrested. Opposition politicians condemned the arrests.

Brazil Holds Colombia Drug Lord

Brazilian police have arrested a man alleged to be one of Colombia's most wanted traffickers in drugs. He was captured near Sao Paulo as part of a major drugs investigation. He is suspected of ordering hundreds of murders in Colombia and the USA. The U S state department describes him as one of the most powerful and elusive Colombia drug traffickers.
