Bomb Hits Troops in Afghanistan
The troops from the U.S. led coalition patrolling south of the Afghan capital were hit by a bomb last Thursday. This caused an unspecified number of casualties. The government, in neighboring Pakistan, denied that its main spy agency was behind a recent assassination attempt on the Afghan president. And that they took aim at Kabul for failing to prevent the attack. The coalition convoy was struck by the bomb Thursday morning during a patrol in Wardak province. The scene was secured, but the exact number and nature of casualties was unclear. The aftermath of the Thursday attack was filmed by a television cameraman. The footage that the television cameraman filmed showed the burning wreckage of a vehicle on a bend in a mountain road. Militants held up what looked like an M-16 rifle and dragged away a belt of ammunition. Unfortunately, it was not possible to independently verify whether the footage was from the same incident that was reported by the coalition.

Baghdad - Bomb Kills 6 in Anbar Province
The U.S. military worried Sunday about receiving mixed messages from Iran, listing a dramatic drop in Iranian-made weapons reaching Iraq but no reduction in the training and financing of Shiite militants. This report further muddles U.S. - Iranian relations as Washington ratchets up its anti-Tehran rhetoric in the shadow of a recent intelligence report that the Islamic republic halted a nuclear weapons program four years ago. A second suicide bombing in two days killed 6 people in Anbar province, the birthplace of the Sunni movement against al-Qaida in Iraq that has been a major factor in a recent downturn in nationwide violence. The apparent target near Fallujah was a U.S. backed Sunni tribal sheik who escaped harm but the bombing reflected the difficult in routing insurgents led by al-Qaida in Iraq even in areas where the military has made major gains. I think Iran is dangerous and we better keep an eye on them closely.

The explosion took place in the town of Dera Bugti in Balochistan province. Some reports say the explosion was in a market, while others say the bomb was on a bus at a bus station.
