Yankees Win Over Indians

The New York Yankees came dangerously close to getting swept away but woke up just in time to save their season and perhaps Joe Torre's job. Johnny Damon lofted a three run homer in the fifth inning, rookies Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain rescued Roger Clemens and the Yankees rallied past Cleveland 8-4 Sunday night, closing within 2-1 in their first round Al playoff series.

Hamlin Gets Victory

Denny Hamlin was so nervous on the last few laps of the NASCAR Nextel Cup race, that his right foot was shaking. He believes he needs race wins to be a serious contender for his first Cup championship. So he was out in front, thanks to a late race gamble on a two tire stop. Jeff Gordon, four time series champion was looming close in his mirrors. Hamlin pulled off, beating series points leader to the finish by 0.068 seconds, less than a car length, to earn his third career victory and the first since last July at Pocono.

Cubs Win Over Rockies

With a two-run hit homer, Cliff Floyd and the Chicago Cubs held off another late Colorado rally to win their fifth straight, 8-5 over the Rockies on Tuesday. This fourth homer of Floyd's sparked a three-run first inning that put Chicago on top to stay. Then the Cubs added four runs in the fifth, highlighted by Koyie Hill's two-run double. It was a great game and great win for the Cubs.

NASCAR

Juan Montoya may be a rookie but he just got his first cup win. That is quite exciting. He is not known for his patience but he showed plenty of it on Sunday. He used his road racing skills to save his tires, stretch his fuel to the limit and win the Toyota/Save Mart 350 for his first NASCAR Nextel Cup victory.
