New Crops

A couple weeks ago already, the little corn could be seen coming up in rows. It made me feel sad because that was one thing my deceased husband loved to see. He loved to ride somewhere and see the new little crops coming up. The fields are almost entirely green in places. It won't be long and it will be way above knee high by the 4th of July this year.

Crops in Iowa

The corn and bean crops in north central Iowa look beautiful right now. They are at their peak. The corn is tasseling and we will be seeing the ears forming very soon. Looking out across the beautiful green bean fields is a real treat. The corn was about waist to shoulder high by the 4th of July. They always say it should be knee high by the 4th but it was way taller than that again this year. Now the farmers hope and pray there won't be any hail storms or bad wind storms to knock the corn down and make it hard to combine. Summer is going way too fast and it hasn't really been hot as it usually is. In fact, it has been downright cold many days. That doesn't help the crops grow.

Bean Field

We have a huge bean field east of us this year. That means, because it isn't corn, we will get a great deal more breeze from that direction this year. That is great. When you are surrounded by corn fields, they give off extra humidity and it cuts off the air flow and it gets much hotter. The problem with hot weather is that it blows in storms. I see on the weather that hurricanes are brewing in the ocean and they said this morning that 2005 was the worst year ever so far. We could have a lively year again this year too.
