Prostate Cancer

My husband was diagnosed in 2000 with prostate cancer. He received 42 radiation treatments and his PSA stayed down for many years. Then it began to climb which meant that some cancer cells were becoming active and about 2 years ago they gave him a hormone shot. It has lasted well until last time he has his checkup, his PSA had started to rise. He had a PSA blood test last week and tomorrow he will find out just what it is. If it is over 10,12,or even 16, they will give him another hormone shot. He has been blessed that the first shot lasted so long.

Men - Have you had a PSA Test?

If you are 50 or over, please go get a PSA blood test for prostate cancer. If you are young, they can catch it usually through surgery, radiation and other ways. If you are older, you can get injections, radiation and now we hear there are various new kinds of chemotherapy. My husband just had a 3 months check up. He was going every 6 months because he was doing so well after 42 radiations treatments in 2000. Now the PSA is jumping up every 3 months and has reached a new high today again. In three months, it will probably be higher according to the doctor and at that time he will probably opt to take the injection. It isn't anything to mess with if you are young. Often if you are in your mid 70's or 80's, you can just forget about it and it won't kill you, you will die of something else first.

Cancer Center - Prostate Cancer

We are going to the cancer center this morning. My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2000. He had 42 radiation treatments and the cancer went into remission. Now it seems to have flared up again and his PSA went way up. So we are going to see his Doctor this morning to see what the next step will be. I understand they have a radiation pill-like thing they put right under the skin on the stomach area. We will find out soon.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer sneaks up on men. There are no symptoms. If you get really sick, then chances are it is in your bones already and there isn't much hope. It is very important that all men get a PSA blood test by age 50. I think age 45 would be even better. Men in there 50's usually have to have surgery if diagnosed with prostate cancer. An enlarged prostate can also give a high reading of PSA but they take biopsies to find the cancer for sure. Men over 70 aren't offered surgery usually, but rather radiation or hormone shots. It is a sneaky disease and worth a man's time to check into it.
