Fans Attend Musical Film Premier
Stars of High School Musical 2 have attended the European Premiere of the film at London's 02 Arena. Many fans gathered wearing cheerleader costumes and waving red pom-poms while some changed Zac Efron's (Troy) name for an hour before he arrived. Speaking about his new found fame, Lucas Grabeel, who plays Ryan in the movie, said it was really crazy and slightly unnerving to be honest. UK viewers can see the film on Disney on September 21.
Iran Reaches Key Nuclear Goal
Iran has met a key target for its nuclear program and now has 3,000 centrifuges enriching uranium, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said. He also said Iran would continue its drive in spite of UN sanctions. Enriched uranium can be used for power stations but also for nuclear bombs. The West has accused Iran of trying to develop weapons, a charge Iran denies.

North Korea to End Nuclear Work
North Korea has agreed to declare and disable all its nuclear facilities by the end of this year, the US negotiator at talks with Pyongyang in Geneva said. Christopher Hill said details of the deal would be discussed at six party talks in China, later in September. North Korea tested a nuclear device last year, but has since agreed to a deal to shut down its program in return for economic and other aid. It has already shut down its main nuclear reactor at Yongbyon.
Guinea-Bissau to Shoot Drug Planes
Suspected drug planes that enter Guinea-Bissau's airspace will be shot down in a bid to reduce rampant cocaine trafficking according to their government. The Prime Minister said he had personally issued the uncompromising order. This follows the army's seizure of a truckload of jet fuel in a forest outside the city of Buba. International drug experts fear the poor, unstable, country surrounded by islands could become a narco-state.

Peru Runs Out of Tents after Earthquake
Peruvian officials say they have run out of tents and urgently need at least 40,000 more to house victims of the devastating earthquake two weeks ago. Aid agencies said many survivors in the Ica region, were living on the streets in unhygenic conditions, and were desperately in need of basic supplies.More than 500 people were killed and 1.300 injured in the earthquake.
Sacked Polish Minister Arrested
Poland's former interior minister, who had accused the government of illegal phone-tapping, has been arrested. Lawyers for Janusz Kaczmarek say he is alleged to have obstructed justice. Mr. Kaczmarek was fired earlier this month on suspicion of leaking confidential information to hinder a corruption inquiry.The former national police chief and the head of a state-run insurance firm were also arrested. Opposition politicians condemned the arrests.

Fighters Seize Pakistan Troops
Scores of Pakistani soldiers are missing near the Afghanistan border amid claims from pro-Taleban militants that the have captured 300 men. More than 100 army personnel are unaccounted for, according to officials in the South Waziristan region. A Muslim militant group said it had taken the troops because the government was not honoring a recent peace deal.
