Ice Skates

I  never could learn to ice skate.  I spent more time sitting on the ice than skating.  It might come in handy now if I could ice skate as we have had freezing rain again and all is slick.  Makes for dangerous driving too.  The winds came up in the night and are gusting as high as 50 mph an hour.  We were blessed now to get the couple inches of snow overnight but now I see a few spits of snow in the air.  At least we don't have any loose snow on the ground to spoil travelling vision on the roads around here.  Other places aren't so blessed.

Spring Weather

Well - where is it?  The groundhog said we would have an early Spring.  Ever since, we have had the worst possible weather.  March has been one big snowstorm after another, with little snows and freezing rains inbetween.  I have missed more church this year, I think, than I have ever missed in many years.  All this due to major storms hitting us on the weekends.  But now we are also getting freezing rains and snow mixed on weekdays too.  It is only 6 days till Spring but somehow I get the feeling it is going to be much longer than that before we start seeing nice weather.  I checked to see if my tulips might be coming up and it is solid ice there.  I just hope it doesn't kill them off.

Freezing Rain

We got freezing rain Saturday night into Sunday.  I could skate on my deck.  It is probably 8 feet from the door to the mailbox to get my newspaper.  I couldn't take one step, it was so slick.  Then it rained making it worse.  I finally threw ice melt out on the deck.  After awhile I tried it again and it was breaking up the ice enough to get the Sunday paper in.  I would rather have snow than ice.  I stayed in where it was safe and warm Sunday.

Ice Skating Without Skates

That is about what we feel like we are doing here in the frozen Midwest. We feel like we are ice skating without skates. We had a couple days of freezing rain on top of snow. That really made it slippery. Now we have had about 3 more days of rain but we have so much snow it doesn't seem to be going down any. I think it is going to be a long time till Spring and we see green grass again.

Traffic

Isn't the traffic getting terrific everywhere. I think every person in every family now has a car and is out on the road. It has gotten so much more congested just in the last couple of years. The other night I had to drive home in the rain and it was tough meeting all the cars headlights in the rain with the windshield wipers going. And the windshield tended to fog over all the time so you had to keep the defroster going all the time too.

Snow and Ice

Well, we got a little bit of that snow they promised us but that is just the beginning. I heard cars were spinning off the road last night. It takes awhile to get used to winter driving again. The highways are clear now but I guess we are really in for a 6 inch snowfall tomorrow and freezing rain and it doesn't sound good at all. I went to the grocery store and stocked up as the cupboards were bare. I don't usually get that much, maybe once a month or even less. But like to have enough meat in the freezer to last a while so we should be set. Keep an extra loaf of bread and some frozen garlic bread and biscuits in there too as it seems like milk and bread are two of the things we run out of most quickly. Sun is shining and wind isn't blowing so it isn't too bad.
