Crazy Spring Weather

This has not been a nice Spring. We have had hot and cold weather. Right now it is cold. We have had so much wind and right now we have gusts to 25 mph. There has been so much rain too. My tulips are up and blooming and being beaten down by the winds and rain. The Goldfinch have returned and are hanging onto the feeders for dear life. Mama Robin has a nest in a curve of a rain gutter just across from me on the house next door and they will be fun to see when the chicks hatch. So far their nest is safe and hasn't blown away. I wonder how many birds have lost their nests this year due to the crazy Spring weather. At least we are not getting any of the snow they are getting out west. Sure glad of that.

Ice Skates

I  never could learn to ice skate.  I spent more time sitting on the ice than skating.  It might come in handy now if I could ice skate as we have had freezing rain again and all is slick.  Makes for dangerous driving too.  The winds came up in the night and are gusting as high as 50 mph an hour.  We were blessed now to get the couple inches of snow overnight but now I see a few spits of snow in the air.  At least we don't have any loose snow on the ground to spoil travelling vision on the roads around here.  Other places aren't so blessed.

Diamonds in the Snow

It is a beautiful sunny day.  We have a layer of fresh snow on the ground.  With the sun shining on it, it looks like millions of diamonds.  It is just beautiful.  Only God could make such a sight.  We got about 6" of fresh snow.  We were lucky as it is only the second snow this year.  The last one was back in December.  Other than that we have just had a dusting here and there or an inch or sometimes two inches.  We have had high winds though blowing everything around but not this time.  The sun came out and think it melted it enough on top to make it stay put.  That's a good thing.

Snow? Blizzard?

Sounds like by Wednesday sometime and Thursday for sure, we will be getting a bunch of snow.  The winds are supposed to be terrible on Thursday so I look for whiteout conditions.  This is ok for me but I feel for the people that need to go to work.  I can stay home and look out the window at it.  We haven't really had any snow to speak of yet this winter which is great for a lot of us but it is bad for those who make a living moving snow.  Also those with snowmobiles are going nuts wanting to get out there and use them.  And those selling them are praying for snow.  Everyone says we need a White Christmas.  I don't.  I love a winter without snow.  Let it catch up on the moisture with warm Spring rains hopefully.  I heard on the news about 2 weeks ago that there was someone out mowing their lawn.  That person is nuts too.  The grass is dormant for the winter and I think the last thing it needs is mowing.  Better have their head examined :0).

50 MPH Wind Gusts

Oh my goodness, is it windy. I went to get the mail and could hardly get my car door open. It has been blowing very hard all day with wind gusts up to 50 MPH. I had to be careful getting back into the car that the door didn't slam on my leg or foot. I had several errands to run and then it started to rain a little on top of the wind. It looks like it has all gone North of us though and I am happy for that.

Another Wild and Windy Day

We are in for another wild and windy day today. Winds were sustained yesterday at about 26 mph but today they could be even stronger. They can do a lot of damage when they get that strong. We hear of cases where people's cars and semi's were blown off the road or blown over. It pays to be very careful when driving in these winds. We have to go out today and hope it isn't blowing so hard yet this morning.

Blowing up a Storm

We have 42 mph wind gusts today and it is blowing in warmer air. That means only one thing. Thunderstorms will be rumbling in tonight. I don't know why it always has to be at night when you can't see anything. We live in a mobilehome and it is kind of scary when the weather really gets rough. We have a good tornado shelter but we are never sure whether we or not it is time to go there.
