El Nino
I wonder how many people know what El Nino is? Also do they know about La Nina? They have a great deal to do with controlling our weather for the year. We have been in La Nina, which is a cooling of the ocean and we have had really bad winters, less hurricanes and drought in places like the West Coast. It has been in control and doesn't seem to let go. But now scientists think the ocean is beginning to warm. But they aren't sure but it could be El Nino and that would be normal rain for the West Coast and they may get rid of their drought. That would be great as they provide the largest share of vegetables for the USA. It would, however, mean more hurricanes next winter and a milder winter for the midwest. We would love that part of it as we have humungous snow piles built up from trying to keep roads and driveways clear enough to drive on.

Christmas is Next Week
I am looking forward to Christmas at my daughter's. I will get to see my latest new little great granddaughter for the first time. There will be lots of little ones to open their gifts. Also will be lots of good food and many treats. Everyone does so much baking of fine cookies and candy this time of the year. I hope the weather cooperated and is nice so everyone can travel here. It is so dark and gloomy today that I have a lamp on so I can see this keyboard. There won't be any sunshine today :0(

Gas and Food Prices
I took a trip to my hometown today. The weather was gorgeous. The trees are all turning beautifully. On the way home I stopped at a town near home where the gas price was lower than at home. It pays to fill up every chance you get to save some money. Then I went to the grocery store there and saved a great deal on a few things I needed. It was a good trip all around.

Hawaii Trip
Our oldest son and his wife just got back from a trip to Hawaii. He said it was beautiful there and he had a good time, but he wouldn't want to live there. First of all, it was too hot and humid. And secondly, he likes living on solid ground without water all around like on the island of Mauai. They came home to 60 degree temperatures where they live and that is VERY UNUSUAL for our part of the country.

Snow is Melting
The snow is beginning to melt at last. It has been above freezing now for several days with lots of sunshine. I heard on the news tonight though, that they are starting to worry about flooding already. Once all this snow melts up north here, it floods the south. It is sure sad that it has to be that way. I wish it could go slowly enough so that there wouldn't be bad floods. However, we are really glad to get rid of the snow. I guess we are going to get some more, though, this week or weekend.

Fish Fry Tonight
We found a new place close to home where we can go for Friday night fish fry. Not only that but it is a new restaurant with a full menu so you can have anything you want. They serve fish all day so you don't just have to go at night. They have huge cinnamon rolls that looked like something I would like to buy and bring home for breakfast tomorrow. The weather has straightened out. The fog is gone. The rain quit but it is so hot and humid now. But at least it is good weather for going out to eat.

Heavy Rains
We are really having some kind of weather this Spring. Now it is the first day of summer and it is going into the 80's and more rain. Neighboring town got 4" of rain. We got nearly 1 3/4" and in the next county they got 6" of rain. They are warning people not to travel in the southern part of that county as there is much flash flooding and many roads are under water and not safe. Don't cross over moving water as it only takes an inch or two to wash your car away and drown you.

Snow in October
It just keeps snowing overnight. We are about 30 degrees below normal around here. We should not have any snow until at least November sometime. Now there is all kinds of rain and snow on the corn and beans. The farmers are going to have to spend a lot of money to dry the corn, if they can just get it out of the fields. The weather is not cooperating. They say we could see more flakes tonight.

4th of July
The 4th of July is almost upon us. That means the year is all down hill from here. The corn is blowing in the wind and the beans are really growing too. We are enjoying temperatures in the 70's instead of 90-100 and the humidity is way down. It is so nice to have the windows open and no clouds or rain in the forecast for several days now. Hope everyone has a fun day on the 4th. Have a family picnic or go see fireworks or something fun.

Tornado Hits Oklahoma
Well, if it isn't snow, it is freezing rain. But here it is February and they had a terrible tornado in Oklahoma. That is unusual but they tell us a tornado is possible every month of the year. It is just that some months do not have as many. If I recall correctly, March is a bad month, as well as, June but it is terrible to have your town completely destroyed and people killed in February, one of the winter months. I know it is warmer in the South but they do get some snow in Oklahoma too. It is so sad to see all the destruction on the television. I feel so sorry for all those people who are now completely homeless and lost family members besides.

The Weather is Changeable
The weather has been unseasonable. When it was supposed to be cold, it was warm and when it was supposed to be warm, it was cold. Now it is raining and we didn't really need that either. It was quite warm today, unseasonably warm but then after supper the wind got down right chilly, so we had to close windows again. You just don't know what to expect from one day to the next. The farmers want good weather as they are really into combining the corn and beans now and they don't want the fields to get wet. They use such big machinery these days and also semis to haul the crops. It is harder if the trucks have to park up on the blacktop and can't drive into the fields.
