Black Friday

Everyone loves Black Friday.  I take that back.  There are lots of people who don't like Black Friday.  I am one of them.  I can see no point in going out at 3 in the morning in the freezing cold and waiting hours to stand in line and try to get something that is really a bargain.  If I needed it that bad, I would have bought it a long time ago.  I can't see fighting for a parking place either, a half mile from the entrance to the store.  I think the best shopping is done starting in January, picking up things along the way till November and then stay away from the big stores, all the traffic, and fighting over items that are marked way down but there are never enough of them for everyone.  So I am sitting here in my warm house, with a hot cup of coffee and a chocolate chip cookie and enjoying every minute of it while others are out again today in freezing 19 degree weather shopping.

Gas and Food Prices

I took a trip to my hometown today.  The weather was gorgeous.  The trees are all turning beautifully.  On the way home I stopped at a town near home where the gas price was lower than at home.  It pays to fill up every chance you get to save some money.  Then I went to the grocery store there and saved a great deal on a few things I needed.  It was a good trip all around.

Lunch with My Brother

Since we have had such a nice winter, I have made it a habit to go on Tuesdays to see my brother. We then go out to lunch at Taco Johns. He has been going there for some time, however, I live in the next town and generally snowy winters keep me at home. But this year was a great winter with very little snow. After shopping yesterday, I met him at Taco Johns and we had a great lunch together and visit. They always have very good food and we both love Mexican of almost any kind.

Shopping at Wal-Mart

I really enjoy shopping at Wal-Mart. They have such a clean and organized store. We took two watches in the other day and the woman took links out of the wrist bands at no charge. We always can find great bargains there and we always get our cereal there as it is so much cheaper than our home town store. We do buy most of our groceries in town but when we get to Wal-Mart, we get things we can't always get here at home. We think it is the best store around.

Gas Prices

I see the gas prices are rising again. They kind of dropped over the weekend but first thing Monday morning they jumped up 11 cents a gallon around here. We went to a larger town yesterday to do some shopping so bought gas there for 14 cents a gallon less. It doesn't amount to a lot but I guess every bit helps. I heard one guy tell of another that drove the distance to that town just to get cheaper gas. That's crazy because I am sure he drove out whatever gas he saved, just by driving to that town. Some people just don't think.

Candy Apples

When is the last time you had a good candy apple? Our granddaughter-in-law's mother made a bunch of them for the local Farmer's Market. I wish I had been closer, I would have enjoyed one too. Don't they look delicious? Their little boy enjoyed one while at the sale of all the good foods that his Mom made for the Farmer's Market. Check them out on http://www.theycallmeoldfashioned.

Modern Couches

Here it is Spring cleaning time. You wash the windows and curtains and drapes. You clean everything you possibly can. Then you stand back and look at the job you have done and you see that old couch and chair and it looks horrible. That is when I got on the Internet and looked to see if I could find some modern couches to spruce up my living room. I sure did find a wonderful selection of everything. Frankly, I was amazed at how much furniture had changed since we bought our old set. There was a marshmallow sofa that caught my eye that was very modern and different. It would sure catch the eye of anyone entering my home. What fun shopping for new furniture!

29 More Days Till Christmas

Do you have your Christmas list made out? Are you going out early for Black Friday and freeze various parts of your body waiting for the stores to open? Not me. I will be snuggled in my nice warm bed in my nice warm house thinking of you. There isn't anything out there that is worth doing that. Standing in mile long lines for hours and then having the last one sold right under your nose. Happy Shopping everyone.

The Coffee Pot Died

It was the morning the coffee pot died. It would heat up the plate under the pot but would not pump any water through. We tried everything we could think of. Then poured hot water through the coffee in the filter and that was ok but not perfect. So we got in the car and went to the store. They had a lot of coffee pots to choose from and got a good Proctor Silex. It has different settings for milder or stronger coffee and makes quite strong coffee on mild but it works good and looks good too.

Shopping

You know we just take shopping for granted. It is an easy task really but when you are using a walker or crutches, it is a whole new ball game. My husband doesn't want to take me along as I am too slow. However, he can never find anything and I am afraid he is going to come home with the wrong foods. He does pretty good on the basics but since our grocery store expanded, there are so many kinds of breads, it is hard to find the one you are used to. I told him to ask the clerks and they are very helpful. I am glad he can do some of the shopping by himself.

Happy New Year

That's the next big Holiday to come next week. I get to go have my eyes checked on New Years Eve day. Always glad to do that though but I have pretty good vision as can take off my glasses and see quite well. Reading becomes a problem though without them.

My husband needs a good sturdy pair of leather slippers with non-slip soles and we are going to see if we can find some while we are in that town. He often walks out on the deck to get the paper or the driveway to put out the garbage and recycle, so he can't just have an ordinary soft snuggly sort of slipper. The place we got his last pair said they discontinued them so we will have to do some searching. At least by then, most of the people will have returned everything they got for Christmas and traffic should be better.

Honeymooners

I see the honeymooners next door have arrived home. I think they went to Minnesota and stayed up by the Mall of America. They have 4 kids so they don't get away by themselves and it had to be nice to be on their own for several days. They will have to wash the car and get all the decorations off of it. And I see them carrying in several bags, so they were able to do some shopping. They had a very beautiful wedding and a lovely reception. There were many gifts there and it took several in the family with vans to haul them all to their house. They will have a great time opening them. It seems families like to get together and watch the bride and groom open their gifts. I think that is fun. The kids will have a fun time too and the little 2 year old will probably "help" unwrap some of the gifts, don't you think?

Tours in Harlem

I bet you have never even thought about taking a tour of Harlem. I know I haven't. I didn't think of all the businesses that are located there and all the great shopping. There are so many ethnic foods to try and Africa artifacts to see. This online website Tours in Harlem invites you to go on tour with them to this area and will delight you with day tours of your choosing. They list quite a number of specific tours and will also design one to your own liking if none of these seems to be quite what you are looking for. They are less expensive and more organized because they live there, unlike outside tours. Because of this they can take you into places you might never see on another tour. You will want to be sure to take in a Soul Food and Jazz tour as Harlem is the heart of jazz. And there are so many beautiful architectural sites to see that can only be reached by a local tour company such as this one. Look into their site for lots more information.
