Bake me a Cake
Here is the future baker of America. He has his baker's hat on and is ready to go. I hope he can make me a delicious chocolate cake. I have been hungry for one. He is ready and willing with his little kitchen to make all kinds of goodies to eat. He's having a lot of fun.

Cold Weather
It is no time to remove the sheet blankets from the bed yet. One night it is so warm, you have windows open and almost sleep on top of the covers. Then just like that, the temperatures drop and you pull the blankets up around your neck to stay warm. The furnace did get a rest for a few days but it was short lived. It is good weather to have something baking in the oven. It helps heat the whole house and smells good too.

Grocery Shopping
Today was the day to stock up on some good meat for the freezer. I like to get a large roast and have it cut in two for crockpot roast. Got carrots and onions so will make one this weekend. Also like to get a rack of baby back ribs and cut this up and package them in the quantity we will eat at one meal. It is so nice to just pull out a package and in no time the house smells so good from both of these meals. I like to put Cookies BBQ sauce on the ribs and slow bake them. Yum

Future Cook

We have a future cook in the family. She loves to work in the kitchen, whether it is in her Mom's kitchen, her Grammy's kitchen, or her own little kitchen. If she is as good a cook as her Mom and Grammy, she will be a good one. She is all girl and loves girlish things. She has a lot of fun playing with her little brother too. They are such a delight.

Crockpot Roast
I put a roast in the crockpot this morning. First I seasoned it and browned it on all sides and then put it in seasoned water in the crockpot and set it on low. We went for a ride and then came home and took a nap. The whole house smelled soooo good. The meat was so tender and the gravy over the potatoes was delicious. It was an easy meal that made itself while we were gone. I just love it.

Candy Apples
When is the last time you had a good candy apple? Our granddaughter-in-law's mother made a bunch of them for the local Farmer's Market. I wish I had been closer, I would have enjoyed one too. Don't they look delicious? Their little boy enjoyed one while at the sale of all the good foods that his Mom made for the Farmer's Market. Check them out on http://www.theycallmeoldfashioned.

Sticky Buns with Pecans

Yum Yum! One of my favorite foods is cinnamon rolls. But sticky buns with pecans has got to be the best. Don't they look delicious? You can see them and the recipe on our granddaughter-in-law's blog They Call Me Old Fashioned. You can get great ideas on decorating cookies and cupcakes too and much more. It makes you hungry just reading her blog.

Baking Cookies

It seems like yesterday that our grandchildren were playing in the little kitchen we had set up on the farm. And now, here is our little great grandaughter making cookies in her little kitchen at her Grammy's. Where does the time fly by? It is hard to believe she is on her way to being 3 years old already. Before we can blink she will be in school.

Cheese and Crackers
In the middle of the afternoon, I would like a little and simple snack. Cheese and crackers is always good. Fresh crackers and a can of spray on cheese and you have a quick snack. I enjoy a cup of hot tea too and once in a while treat myself to a cup of cappiccino. I found a brand I really love at the grocery store and so easy to stir up a cup with hot milk.

Rice Soup
I made some Rice Soup this week. It is an easy soup with stew meat, broth, potatoes, carrots and rice. My old German mother-in-law made it all her life and it is one of my husband's favorite soups. It is great to have it in the refrigerator to pull out for a quick tasty lunch or supper too. My husband really loves soup. He could eat some with every meal. This one is especially fast to make and I can have it for lunch in no time at all. Sure saves me a lot of work on some lunches for a few days after I make a batch.

Fresh Baked Bread
I have two loaves of brown bread rising in the pans. It will be a long time before it is ready but it will sure be good when it is done. Hot bread, butter and raspberry jam is a big favorite of ours. I don't think there are too many things that smell better than freshly baking bread.
Cinnamon rolls would probably be my next favorite. Cinnamon anything smells up the house so good. I have a wonderful recipe for bread pudding that smells so good when it is baking. It has cinnamon in it too. My husband's family always ate it hot with cream and a little sugar sprinkled on it. We use half and half and warm the leftovers a bit the next day in the microwave and it is just as good as when it came out of the oven. I save up the heels of the bread until I have enough for a batch. It is so good.

Baking Pies
The other day my daughter was telling me about all the homemade food she was making for her sons in college. When she started telling me that, it got me excited to do more home cooking myself. She said she had made a delicious lemon meringue pie but needed the recipe for the meringue. Since I have a "never fail" recipe, it was my turn to help her out and email her the recipe. The pie turned out beautiful as you can see here and I wish we could have been there to get a little slice of it. It looks so very good.
The last pie I made was cherry and my husband said that was not his favorite. He loves my peach pies and I have some blueberry mix in the cupboard and just might make that one next. Doesn't that sound good?

Cooking Supper
Tonight I get out of cooking supper. We are going to out to eat and that is always good. I enjoy the days when we eat out because then I can keep on posting on my blog without interruption. I do need to take some time out though and go walk on the Gazelle. I walk 30 minutes a day every day and sometimes more.
Diet and exercise, I have found, is the best way to stay healthy and fish is good for you too. I had to run an errand a while ago so that took a bit of time out of my day but I am back and ready for more posting. I'm going to have to check out the freezer though and see what I am going to cook for supper tomorrow night. Tomorrow is kind of a laid back day and I will have more time for cooking a favorite meal.
